Sponsor A Stone
A walk around the Cathedral will reveal that much of its stone masonry is crumbling and covered in a harmful black sulphate crust. To give a feel for the scale of the work required, in the two areas of the Cathedral where work is now taking place there are 30,000 stones alone, many requiring replacement. The new stones, sourced from South West England and France, are worked largely by hand using traditional methods handed down from one generation to the next.
Be part of it
You now have a unique opportunity to play your important part in Canterbury Cathedral's future. By sponsoring a stone being carved by the Cathedral's own stonemasons, you can make a tangible contribution that will be cherished for years to come.
Making a difference together
Whether you choose to sponsor a stone as an individual, business, school, social organisation, as a gift, or in memory of a loved one, it is a wonderful way to play your part in the Save Canterbury Cathedral Appeal.
How to sponsor a stone

There are two different stones that you can sponsor; the pale walling stone from France, featured above, which is widely used throughout the Cathedral or the more specialist carved stone, featured below, which is used in decoration. Each pale walling stone is £60 and the decoration stones are £300 each.

For your donation you will receive a Certificate of Thanks from the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury Cathedral which includes a drawing plotting where your stone is located (pictured below) and you can also choose to have your donation recognised on our online Roll of Donors.

Payment is easy; you can make a one-off donation or pay in
instalments over a minimum of 12 months. Just print off our order
form and return it to us with your donation.
